This event is curated by New Rose Associates Ltd – a Nottingham based, not-for-profit social enterprise, in order to mark the 40th anniversary of the Rock Against Racism gigs and Anti Nazi League rallies across the UK.
Rock Against Racism is currently part of an exhibition at the Museum of London highlighting the city’s most important cultural and political moments.
Saturday 15th September sees the launch night of celebrations at Rough Trade Nottingham, featuring talks, live performances and DJ sets.
Speakers are to include:
Roger Huddle (co-founder of Rock Against Racism in 1976), Ruth Gregory (one of the key London activists in the collective movement Rock Against Racism and one of the 3 main designers of the RARzine Temporary Hoarding), Red Saunders (also a founder of Rock Against Racism, photographer, and activist), and Daniel Rachel (author of the book ‘Walls Come Tumbling Down: The Music and Politics of Rock Against Racism, 2 Tone and Red Wedge’).
Local bands Static Kill, Diablo Furs and headliner Neville Staple Band, will be performing live at the event.
However, the event isn’t just a celebration – and will be looking at what can be learnt from Rock Against Racism and the Anti Nazi League, to fight racism in today’s society.
6pm – midnight
All donations to support the Rock Against Racism: 40th Anniversary events are taken at the time of booking.
All ages welcome. Lift accessible.
